Music in the last sequence

Hi, im am currently writing a piece on the use of realist aesthetics within La Vie Revee des Anges and am curious as to what you guys have to say about the last sequence. As you have seen the film is shot very much like a documentry, however the last scene uses music and much smoother camera work. I would just like to know if anyone had an intterpretation of why this was used. Any comments would be helpful. Thanks, Mark.

I dont think the director went into it with a fixed notion of "documentary"-style aesthetics or anything. He wanted to be true to his vision and probably was open to the idea of "whatever works." The song and scene at the end was very moving and Zonca probably liked the idea of a "Greek chorus" mournfully commenting on his characters and their destinies.
