Jason Priestly as Super Soul??? OMFG!!!

I can't believe they casted a white, dorky-ass guy like him as the radio DJ! Old Cleavon Little has to be turning over in his grave! Gotta see the original version of this at least once. The high point of the original for any red-blooded male with a pulse is definitely the hot-ass blond chick riding the motorcycle stark naked from head to toe! Also have the mention the black, blind DJ Super Soul, and the crazy, snake-loving Jesus freaks he meets out in the desert! The 1971 version is a bonafide cult classic!

That girl in the original was probably the first girl I ever saw naked. She'll always have a place in my, uh, heart.

Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown.

Once I found out that this was a "TV version" I knew it couldn't be as good as the first simply because of the motorcycle girl. Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised with Peta Wilson. Although not naked... she was very hot! I thought they might do away with that part all together, so it was cool they still had a motorcycle girl.

c'mon. jp is super soul!

I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, "... I drank what?"

Cleavon Little was one of the high points of the original. The bond between the two characters was amazing and they never spoke or even met. The filmmakers didn't understand what made the original great they just wanted to make a car chase film. Sad.

Ugh, if you're going to whine. at least get your facts straight. He's not "Super Soul", he's "The Voice". And IIRC, he's more of a redneck or hippie tinfoil hat type. Completely different character.

reply

Exactly. The 1997 remake was updated for, well, 1997, with a libertarian, rightist shock jock talk radio host instead of a soulful, leftist DJ.

It is deliriously mind bending to do that!  Just the thought of having Jason Priestly in this at all, let alone as the stand-in for Cleavon Little?! Nuts!

But, the demented side of me loves the bat-@#$% choices this movie makes! I mean, Steve Railsback! Love him. He's so 100% into this that it's great! Just like in other wonderfully nutball films like "Lifeforce" and "The Stuntman."
