Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An under rated masterpiece, no question

Just watched it for the first time in years, and MY GOD is it terrific

reply

Totally agree. I especially love the way it is filmed, kind of crooked, like Sean Penn would be feeling...

reply

This movie sucks. The characters are unlikable and annoying, the story is trying so hard to convince you it's cool and original when in actuality it's a clichéd and convoluted mess. Oh and the directing is *beep* too because Oliver Stone is clearly copying the styles of better filmmakers like Malick, Tarantino and Gilliam.

I'll give you the cinematography was pretty good, but that's just because Robert Richardson is good at his job and he polished the hell out of this turd.

reply

Not saying that Stone is the greatest director that ever lived by any means -- but saying he "copied" Tarantino would be a bit of a stretch

reply

It's evident in the way Stone has some of his characters act. But you can't deny that the visual style is almost a blatant ripoff of Malick & Gilliam.

reply

Agreed, taquitoz. This is a truly awful movie. One of the most embarrassing ever.

Just why? The non-existent "plot" is like something I would have outlined when I was a 12 year old dork who watched too many low-brow 80s and 90s crime movies. Of course most of them were far better than this. Even Money Train looks first class compared to this!

"And the number one reference that I am running into the ground is: Homer Simpson!"

reply

So you have no awareness or appreciation of black comedy..or satire?
Because that's what this is..
I don't recall Money Train having that element... so where's the odd comparison?

reply

Tarantino couldn't make this film if he tried. Dialogue is short sharp and snappy in this, Tarantino is the opposite.

reply

The idea that the audience should "like" the characters is so laughable it undermines the credibility of everything else you say.

I will say this: I can think of few movies -- or directors -- who are as polarizing as this one

reply

Well the idea that the one dimensional and overacted characters were at all polarizing to you undermines your criticisms as well. Despite the fact that this movie's style feels like an under developed fever dream Oliver Stone copied from the chicken scratch of Terrence Malick, the only reason anyone should enjoy this movie is if they look at it lie Con Air (even though Con Air was blatantly stupid on purpose and had more character development, while this film is more of just a huge swing and a miss for everyone involved)

reply

I would rather watch a supercut of Pluto Nash and all Uwe Boll movies than sit through this overacted, oversaturated and underwritten *beep* of a movie

reply

Hm...

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .
