Looking for a similar movie

I'm looking for the title of a movie I saw a while ago. I'm posting this question here because I don't know where else I could, and because U-Turn reminded me of the other movie. So maybe one of you movie buffs out there knows which one I mean, I think it is quite popular.

I don't remember much and I might be wrong about some details, but it also took place mainly in a quite secluded place in the desert. There was a young woman living with an older man, probably her father, and someone appeared who I guess turned out to be a criminal. Someone, probably that same person, stole a lot of money from someone in the city and was running from him. In the end, a lot of people turned out to have been lying, and two women (?) quite unexpectedly turned out to have been on the same side, and drive away with all the money.

OK, very vague, and could probably describe several movies, but I hope one of you can at least give a guess which could lead me in the right direction.

Thanks
Dan

Edit: My research has now led me to the movie "Kill Me Again" (1989). I'm still not really sure if it's the one I was looking for, but after reading the description, I think it might be. I'll look for a copy to check if it's the one.

Made Men (1999) with James Belushi is also kind of similar...

every thing about the movie youre lookin for sounds exactly like u turn, except the two women in the end.maybe you got it confused with another movie???

Thanks for all your great replies so far. Unfortunately, the movie I am looking for is not among them.

It's possible that I might have gotten something mixed up. I probably mixed parts of two different movies, because I'm not sure about the whole abuse thing anymore.

Some more stuff I remember:

What I'm quite sure about is that the person who stole from the ganster in the city was a woman. And there was a scene where someone was waiting in a car in a back alley to pick her up. The end took place in a quiet desert area along the road. I think they stopped there to dig out the money that has been hidden there. At least one more character is killed once the money is dug out, and two women who you wouldn't have thought would be in this together, drove off with the money.

I also think, judging by the visual quality I remember the movie to be in, that it was probably produced in the 1980s. Most of the movies you suggested are too new, I think. And it's not Thelma & Louise :) the women in the end did not die, the movie ended when they drove off on that lonely road.

Thanks again!
Dan

Thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately the one I'm looking for has not been among them so far =(

Red Rock West is really in a very similar style, but I know the film and it's not the one. It didn't have the "weirdness" factor of 3000 Miles to Graceland =) and No Country for Old Men is far too new, I saw the film I was looking for on TV at least 5 years ago, rather more. From how I remember the film to look (I'm pretty good at guessing a films age) I would say that it wasn't produced after 2000, and definitely not before 1980. Unfortunately this has so far not helped me in finding it either.

The description of the ending I gave up there, with the two women, seems pretty accurate. I can say that because I have by now found another person who has seen the film, and remembers the ending to be exactly as I did. I started describing it, and she just completed all my sentences, so at least no I know the film really exists and I didn't dream it! But of course, she doesn't remember the title either.

We both remember that the man and the woman were to drive off together with the money, but then the woman killed him and another woman joined her. Also she confirmed my memory that they were driving off in a convertible, and that the very last scene of the film was a long shot of them driving off towards the horizon, a road in a barren desert area but a huge rock wall to the left side of it.

You're thinking of "Because of Winn Dixie." Case closed.

Only because of the two girls, could it be BOUND?

Still no luck so far, but thanks again for all the great suggestions, many of them are really in the same style. So far I have checked out (or knew already) the following:

29 Palms, 3000 Miles to Graceland, Bound, Deadly Past, Gas Food Lodging, Kill Me Again, Made Men, Quick (1993), Red Rock West, Thelma & Louise, Wild at Heart.

Especially "Quick" and "Kill Me Again" had endings so similar to what I remember that I think I was remembering one of them, and simply mixed in elements from other films I've seen. The woman in an abusive relationship in that distant place in the desert, that could've been from any number of movies. The other thing with a woman stealing money from (and I believe killing?) a gangster in the city, and then escaping with someone who was waiting in a car in a back alley, I also remember distinctly. Especially a shot from the ceiling of the dark warehouse she stole the money from. The two could be from the same film or not. Because it has been many years now I believe that I have mixed in the ending of one of the films above with the story of that one, so it's possible the film I was looking for never existed after all.

Nonetheless I've seen a lot of great dark Southern USA desert money crime escape thrillers now =) so it's been worth it!

The last seduction, Blue velvet and Lost highway are also worth seeing. But White sands is more of a money orientated movie.

I doubt Deadly past is available anywhere.

I forgot about The Last Seduction, that has come up in my search again and again as well. I have actually seen it the first time at around the same time as the film(s) I am/was looking for, and I think they are about the same age. They're definitely very similar.

Lost Highway and Blue Velvet are great as well. As a David Lynch fan I knew that those (along with Wild at Heart) aren't among those I forgot though :)

And White Sands looks promising, I'll be checking it out if I can find it.

Deadly Past is only available on VHS as far as I know. Would deserver a DVD release though.
