Terrible directing, a convoluted screenplay, irritating performances, horrible music (the pop stuff, not the incidental score),sub par camera work, bare bones production values all distracted from what could have been a very good film in other hands.Everyone wants remakes of great films for some inane reason but it is small films like this, about an important subject that should be given a "remake" especially when things have changed that would give it a different, perhaps brighter outcome for all involved.
And yes, Brendan Fraser was gorgeous and sweet and is the definite "star" here, giving the most honest and heartfelt portrayal.
