Why has this hidden gem not become more popular?

I just happened upon it on FLIX on demand. I never even heard of it before. What a finely acted drama on such an interesting topic. And to think it was filmed 11 years ago. It makes you really think about your opinion/attitude on so many levels. More people should see this one.

I concur- a truly underrated film.

Of course, I am bit biased as one of the characters is based on me!

I totally agree with you, more people should see this film.

I don't know what happened with its distribution.

I live in Argentina and I am a huge fan of Brendan Fraser so I of course could not miss this one. But it's impposible to find it.
I was lucky enough to tape it from the open tv some years ago. The weird thing is that it was not aired again as they usually do... I mean, they show a film and some months later o next year they show it again. But this NEVER happened with this one.
So unfortunately I only have this film dubbed into Spanish. I could never get the original version.

Ok, it doesn't deserve an Oscar but it's a great film with a great message.

Definitely, love it. Totally overlooked.

The film (or maybe it was a TV Movie) is an adaption of an off-Broadway play and it handles the issue of abortion (with a bit of science fiction) in a way that is not traditionally done in the United States. This may have made the film somewhat difficult to appreciate or market.

I cannot speak for the situation in other nations, but in the United States most of the "pro-life" campaigns in the United States also oppose gay rights, where as most of the "pro-choice" campaigns tended to support gay rights.

This film is trying to look at the issue of abortion through a narrative that is quite different from the standard "socially conservative pro-life" versus "socially liberal pro-choice" scale.

Most pro-life groups would oppose abortion, but often would also oppose LGBT rights legislation. Where as most pro-choice groups would generally view abortion as personal decision (even if motivated by prejudice), but tended to back LGBT rights.

Basically, the film is trying to make people (gay and straight, prolife and prochoice) think a bit more about these complex ethical issues beyond a mere bumper sticker slogan.

Also this film came out -- probably with a limited, 'art house' release just a few years for more "Summer Blockbuster" film, 'The Mummy' (1999). Heck, the way that film making often occurs, preproduction and filming for the Mummy probably took place sometime in like, 1997/1998.

I am not saying that the Mummy film is bad -- I actually enjoy the first two in the Mummy trilogy -- but it the type of "popcorn" adventure film that does not expect too much from the audience and can be a great career move for any actor or actress to star in.

Smart and right!
