Silly Question

What does N.M. mean, and why do you think they named the movie Truth or Consequence - the movie has nothing to do with truth...?
In Israel the Hebrew movie name is translates to "Crime Pays". I think that is a much better name for the movie, because it doesn't give anything away, only enhances the irony.

I thought it stood for New Mexico. I almost remember when the film was released that it was actually called, "Truth or Consequence, New Mexico"

Does anyone else know if this is right?

I think Truth or Consequences, N. M. is one of tyhe best movie titles ever, it's just perfect, and has two meanings.

I've never seen-It marketed under Any Other Title.

Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico used to be known as Hot Springs, New Mexico. The town name was changed to honor a popular TV show of the 50's.

No, you can't touch me!

In Germany the movie title is translated into "The Place of Truth".

That part of the country is peppered with really cool names like: Ajo(garlic); cebolla(onion); Kaka. I agree that this is a great movie I saw it in a hotel room in California a few years ago and last night on local television.

Truth or Consequences, N.M. is also where a big murder, torture, and kidnapping case took place in the early ninties. There is a book all about it called "Slow Death". The book is very graphic and disturbing, because the killer tortures his victims, all women, in his chamber he named, the toy box. Its a good book, but some of the courtroom stuff can be pretty boring, but for the most part its good.

I lived in Truth or Consequences for about a year when I was 18 and 19 and my mom and brother live there still. a friend of my brothers was the younger brother of one of the women who was killed. She had two very cute little girls who became orphans and it was SOOOOOOOOOO sad. Altogether it was the strangest year of my life. Anyone live there?

reply

Haha, I've never seen this move, but the title caught my attention. I live in NM. Yes, that stands for New Mexico. Truth or Consequences is a city here. Its named for a TV show.

Well, geographically, N.M. is comparable to N.Y., N.J., T.X., C.A., V.A., etc., according to the U.S. Postal Service. This places the town of Truth or Consequences in the STATE of New Mexico, where the finale of this film took place.

(The town of Hot Springs 'won' the honor of changing its name in the '50's after the hit quiz show of the time.)
