Jim Carrey no good for this part.

This film was a great idea but Jim Carrey can not help pullin that stupid rubbery face and actin the clown.... The film makers should've cast a serious actor to play Trueman. Carrey just turned it into a comedy act. It would have been so much better and more realistic without Jim Carrey's rubbery over the top facial expressions and his over the top chicken walks! This film didnt need that! It wasnt a comedy. The story idea didnt need comedy in it!

You obviously misunderstood this movie and haven't watched much Jim Carrey. He did an outstanding job as a serious character in this movie. And this isn't the only movie where he plays a role as a serious character for a movie that is in the IMDb Top 250.

reply

What? I couldn't imagine anyone else in the role, he did such a great job as this guy who feels trapped and alienated. I mean could you picture someone like Edward Norton in it, the ratings would drop in a week since he isnt funny enough to be Truman.

reply

He was perfectly cast i thought. Very underrated performance and movie in general.

It's his second best performance after Eternal Sunshine in my opinion. He's absolutely perfect for this role.

reply

You missed the whole point. It was twisted whimsy and Jim Carrey was ideal for the role.

I can't think of another actor who could have done such a brilliant job.

reply

I agree. And he should have received more industry recognition than he did. This was Oscar-worthy in my opinion. The role needed someone who exuded an innocence that Carrey does. Whimsical, and touching and innocent.

I actually liked the contrast between this exaggerated comedy element and the horror of the whole situation the most. Luckily I knew absolutely nothing about the plot when I first watched it, so at first it felt like some bizarre comedy that later evolved into something absolutely epic and brilliant.:)

"The film makers should've cast a serious actor to play Trueman. Carrey just turned it into a comedy act."-1stly what do you mean by serious act?comedy is as difficult as a serious act,2ndly what have you observed in this movie which forced you to think that carrey has turned it into a "comedy act"?if this is because of the bathroom times of truman when he used to talk with himself then i would like to say that the topic of the story is a life of a person and comedy is a part of our life.the little comedy which has been shown in the movie haven't seemed peculiar to me and without those little comedies there would have been some incompleteness in the masterpiece.lastly i haven't found the movie a comedy type. if you think carrey has turned it into comedy then i'm sure you haven't watched the movie carefully.watch it again.

My opinion on Jim Carrey is that for every film of his that I like there's one I don't like but, on this occasion, it's perfect casting in my opinion. This film and 'Man on the moon' are Carrey's finest hour.
