The last GOOD Bond flick imo

It had everything you would expect in a James Bond movie and the execution was top notch. The villain was good and believable, the Bond girl was an ass kicker and Brosnan was now getting comfortable in the shoes. Awesome Bond flick, and the last truly great one.

I remember being a tad let down after the sheer awesomeness of GOLDENEYE. It's competently made and the villain is kind of interesting. Michelle Yeoh is really cool but Teri Hatcher was kind of 'meh'.

reply

Eh Goldeneye was middle of the road at best

reply

Eh while I do prefer Goldeneye over TND, Goldeneye wasn’t anything special. Both of them are good mindless fun, nothing more.

reply

I don't even remember the pre-title sequence. I seem to always confuse it with TWINE. Tells me how generic and bland these Brosnan middle movies are. Goldeneye and DAD I remember just fine, which are Brosnan's best.

reply

Very solid Bond movie. Not the most memorable of the bunch. Really amazing stuntwork in this.

reply

I'd give that honour to Die Another Day but yeah this film is a pretty decent stab at modernising the Bond formula with the manipulating media villain rather than a straight out megalomaniac looking for world domination.

Loved the remote control car scene as well - that and the Goldeneye tank are probably Brosnan's best.

And Dr Kaufman was brilliant! Now he probably is the last proper Bond henchman...

I like Casino Royal but other than that, I agree.
(I will give props to some things in TWiNE though)

GE: 10/10
TND: 7.5/10
TWiNE: 5.5/10
DAD: 2/10

CR: 9/10
QoS: 5/10
Sky: 4.5/10
Spec: 3/10

I like this film but disagree.

Casino Royale (2006) is definitely GOOD. I can understand people having issues with Quantom of Solace through No Time To Die but when it comes to the last good Bond film Casino Royale is unsurpassable.

reply

Skyfall?

I guess it depends on what you mean by "good".

Casino Royale is one of the better Bond films, so it's a good benchmark, but I enjoyed Skyfall and Spectre and would call both "good".

I haven't seen No Time to Die (yet).

reply

I liked Not Time To Die so for me that's the last good Bond film. You should definitely check it out if you like Skyfall & Spectre. But I'm just playing devils advocate here, I understand some people have issues with NTTD and also Skyfall (which is generally well regarded but there is a minority who don't like it).

Casino Royale is the second best Bond film of all time for me and I struggle to see how people can look past it. If any film is the last good Bond film it wasn't released before Casino Royale that's for sure.

reply

I plan to watch NTTD, I just haven't yet. I'm not sure if it's streaming yet?

CR's my number 2, as well! From Russia with Love is No.1. Of course, my rankings shift a bit now and then, but CR is an easy "top-five" for me.

reply

Yeah sorry dude you're really late to the train, No Time To Die has been on Amazon Prime since December 7th and on Bluray since December 21st.

reply

I wasn't really keeping track of it. Thanks for letting me know; I've got Prime, so I'll check it out when I get a spare three hours (that's too long, by the way; maybe it's good, but I don't think one should need three hours to do a Bond story).
