I never thought of that, but probably would have survived.

If Jack just humbled himself while dining with the monarchy at the 1st class dinner table and not try to diddle the actual King's fiance in the back of the Renault, Cal would have made arrangements for all of them to escape via lifeboat.

Mind Blown

Cal didn't even try to make arrangements for Rose, just himself. He only put her on that boat to get her away from Jack.

Not true. It was assumed that all first class women and children would have a seat in a lifeboat.

Say what you will about Cal, but he did love Rose and would have made sure she and her mother got off safely before taking the later lifeboat that he arranged from himself and Lovejoy . Sure, he got his dander up when Jack became a romantic threat, but who wouldn't?

If Jack wasn't boinking Rose, Cal would have had made sure that he, Rose, her mom, Lovejoy, and Jack (assuming Rose asked Cal to include him) all got off safely.

Bullshit!
It is clear that Cal only saw Rose as a possession and didn't love her at all.

And he wouldn't have done anything to save Jack.
Why would he?

Disagree. Men can be possessive of and *still* love a woman. These are not mutually exclusive concepts. Cal certainly got more possessive after Jack engaged in amorous congress with Rose, but what man from that era wouldn't have freaked out if his fiance cheated on him?

Because Rose asked him to??

Cal was grateful to Jack for saving Rose's life. When the Colonel suggested "something for the boy", Cal agreed and offered him money. When Rose asked if cash was all her life was worth to him, Cal again agreed and invited Jack to dinner.

If Rose had asked Cal to save Jack, he would have agreed to simply because Rose asked. As Cal said, there's nothing he would deny her - well, up to the point when Jack started bonestorming Rose that is..

He would have died 7 years later in WWI
