If Titanic sunk today.....

What would be very different from the situation now? Here's what I think:

1. People would be Face-Timing or live-streaming themselves during the sinking
2. LGBT passengers would accuse the officers for assuming who constitutes a "woman" or "child"
3. Kids would be making TikTok videos before getting on a lifeboat

Call spoiler alert before you say things like that! I was just going to watch it ffs.

reply

Since it's been 23 years, you've had plenty of time now. Here's another spoiler: Jack DIIIIIIEEEEESSSS!!!!

Don't know if the comment above is a joke, but the ship, Titanic, is famous for sinking and has been mentioned on and off in the news, documentaries and in some films since it sank 109 years ago!!! How could anyone not know this by now?

But yes, not great to give a spoiler about who actually dies in the film though.

reply

I think that was the joke.

It was the same thing everybody was saying when it came out. "I was going to see Titanic, but then I found out the ending."

reply

:-) lol

reply

It can still be a spoiler tho' because a movie might not depict the real ending it based the story on, maybe an alternate reality take, or sci-fi time travel or paralel universe, etc. where the Titanic never sinks.

reply

Yeah, maybe Tarantino will film an alternate history where Titanic does not sink, but blows the icebergs out of the water instead...

reply

Give it happened 109 years ago, everyone that was on it is dead by now, whether they portrayed the person in a film or not... They're all dead.

reply

23 years? More like 108, amirite?

reply

Call spoiler alert before you say things like that! I was just going to watch it ffs.

AGREE!!!! Too soon!!!

I think they'd be able to successfully communicate with the people from the Californian.

reply

Most likely.

reply

If you want serious answers:

1) They would have had enough life boats for everybody, and every boat would have been fully loaded.
2) Communication with other nearby boats would be dramatically better, as well as the speed which they could have reached them.

Fun answers
1) News helicopters would not only find the Titanic before any rescue boats, but they would air the sinking live on TV, and do nothing to help.
2) Major uproar about the unproportionate number of poor people who died versus the rich.
3) The hardcore feminist groups are oddly quiet about the significantly higher percentage of women survivors, or the policy of "Women and Children first."
4) The few celebrities who died get way to much coverage. The surviving ones can't get in front of a camera fast enough. And at least 3 celebrities tell us stories about how they were supposed to be aboard but changed plans at the last minute.
5) 75% of the bodies found in the water are still holding their cell phones in their cold dead hands.

LOVE it!!

THIS is a real answer, and an actual commentary on today’s media coverage. Not some “hur dur millenials b twerkin, #ducklips” shit.

reply

2) Major uproar about the unproportionate number of poor people who died versus the rich.

This actually happened with the Titanic, too.

4) The few celebrities who died get way to much coverage.

By "celebrities" in today's world, you mean YouTube, social media and Instagram nobodies who practically no one has heard of outside of their followers but the MSM eulogizes as being "brilliant", "innovative" and "legendary" icons whose deaths are "shaking the industry."

reply

Ha yes the obligatory “Titanic sinks! Women and minorities hit hardest!”

And it would be followed by a 1000 YouTube videos and the Democrat media blaming Trump with zero evidence as usual.

reply

"1) They would have had enough life boats for everybody, and every boat would have been fully loaded."

That's the correct answer. On a modern cruise, everyone is assigned a space in a lifeboat, are shown where it is and how to board, and told exactly what they are allowed to bring. If a modern cruise ship sinks slowly, nobody should die.

People are allowed to bring anything that can fit in their pockets, of course, including cell phones...

reply

"If a modern cruise ship sinks slowly, nobody should die"

That's the kicker, though. If the ship sinks slowly. *Titanic* sank in 2.5 hours, and they had 20 boats. Every boat launched would have been fully loaded, certainly, but would they have had enough time to launch all the boats? I was watching a documentary that covered this very topic a few months ago, and they timed exactly how long it took to load and launch one of the lifeboats. The consensus was that it would have been cut extremely close to actually get all the boats fully loaded and launched in the 2.5 hours.

Now, that's taking into consideration the fact that they were using 1912 technology. Today, launch system would probably be mechanized, so it would probably take less time to release a boat into the water. There also would have been at least one lifeboat drill, so everyone on board would presumably know what to do and where to go (presumably). So there's that. But the big unknown would be how quickly the ship goes down.

Also, way to be a self-hating millennial yourself.

reply

"ok boomer"?

Is that the only comeback you've got?

Being a self-hating millennial is a good thing, btw.

reply

LOL! I don't think you're that off-base.

Check out life footage from the Concordia Sinking. People were recording every single moment, even as the ship started listing so heavily that passengers couldn't walk anymore and stuff was crashing across the floor. So, yes, people would definitely be doing the whole TikTok/live streaming thing. Heck, some idiots might play "My Heart Will Go On" thinking they're being cute and funny.

LGBT passengers would accuse the officers for assuming who constitutes a "woman" or "child"

Transgender "women" with their muscular legs, powerful forearms and linebacker shoulders would be tackling, shoving or pile driving "cis" women on their way to the lifeboats screaming, "OUT THE WAY, BITCHES!" leaving behind a trail of wigs, Lee Press On nails and falsies.

Hahahahha!! Love it!

We need a thumbs up button for those of us that thoroughly enjoyed a post with nothing to add..

Slow clap

reply

Yeah. And what about agendered or non binary people? When would they get to jump on a boat?

reply

It's their fault if they are too sensitive to identify.

Bingo.

It wouldn't hit an iceberg. They've all gone due to global warming!

Ummm there still very much are glaciers today. Temperature has changed a little over a degree since the Civil War.

You know something about science and climate history, which is over most people's heads.

LOL seriously, on the Day After Tomorrow forum I pointed out that if air was descending from the Tropopause it would not be -150 as the Tropopause is only about -40, and someone responded with "but it could be if the storm was powerful enough to bring down supercooled air from space", uhhhhh first of all the Tropopause is about 6 miles altitude, the atmosphere extends hundreds of miles, secondly THERE IS NO AIR IN SPACE!!!!
