Would Rose and Jack's relationship really have survived off the Titanic?

I doubt it. I think Rose would have had issues and probably grown bored with Jack after a while. She would have found someone with more money.

sure it would, they'd be in America. lots of opportunities for Jack to prosper

reply

Perhaps but unless he made it big as an artist I can't see him doing much else.

reply

No. It only worked if he died. This whole thing was crap. Boo-hoo. I despised this movie, its hype, and its 300 fans, each of whom saw it 1 million times. It was up there with the hysteria over the death of Diana Spencer, another nonentity.

They were both outcast...she had status but no money and hated the limitations of her gender in that era and he was male but had no status or money but had a adventurous spirit.
I think they could've made it if they didn't let the limitations of that world break their spirit.
If money were the most important thing to her she would've stayed with Cal or sold the necklace. I think she wanted freedom to do what she wanted more than money.

They would have been miserable together. He'd have hated having to support a wife, the realities of poverty would have horrified her, and by the time they realized what a mistake they'd made, she'd have been pregnant. And once that happened, there would have been no way out for either of them.

As far as their love was concerned, Jack was better off dead.

That's pretty much what I think. She was in the end a spoiled rich girl who had never had to go without. She may have enjoyed playing with the poor folk but she always got to leave them behind at the end of the day. Jack was a dreamer and I doubt he would have lasted too long in a factory etc supporting his family.

Another aspect, WW1 was only a few years away, he may have joined up and gotten killed or maimed as well.

If you really want the answer to that question, just watch "Revolutionary Road"....that movie is basically Titanic 2.
