Do you prefer the first half or the second half?

This has to be one of the few movies that has distinct two halves. The first 90 minutes is a "docu"-drama and romance film. The last 90 minutes is a thrilling and rather tragic disaster flick.

I have to be one of the few who prefers the first half of the film. The second half is still amazing of course.

It depends on my mood. Mostly I prefer the first half because it's so beautiful and halcyon almost like a fairytale. The second half is rather harsh and shocking but amazing nonetheless. It makes me very sad and gives me a headache as I get too emotionally involved.
As a child I prefered the second half though.
Still, It is my favourite movie.

Both equally. They are good for different reasons. The first half is a great build up to the second, and the set and atmosphere of the era is very well done. There's also a few key historical details in the first half. In a deleted scene Jack Phillips ignores the Californian's ice warning. This was 10 minutes before the ice berg collision. You also get a good sense of impending doom with Jack and Rose's flying scene.

The special effects of the second half are still amazing, nearly 20 years on.

I love the entire movie from start to finish, but I suppose I like the Jack/Rose scenes during the first half just a little more. But the sinking of the ship is amazing as well.

Oh I dunno I think lots of movies have distinct halves - and usually it's more like thirds which I also think Titanic has.

But as far as which half I prefer, it's the first - the "set the stage" act, as opposed to the "tragedy" act.

it depends on what mood on i'm, but usually the first half, which is why i still like having the VHS. i just pop in the first tape and when it's finished, i'm done. LOL

Both the first half and the second half are good. I think that they are both good in different ways. The first half shows life on the Titanic before it sank. It shows how optimistic people were about traveling on the Titanic. It shows what different parts of the ship looked like. The second half of the movie shows the tragedy of the sinking. A lot of people did not want to believe that the Titanic could sink. It showed the realization of how people felt when they realized that a ship to come rescue them wouldn't come in time and the panic of there not being enough lifeboats towards the end of the sinking. Both parts of the movie are good.

I never get tired of "the sinking" sequences. Fascinating in the way they are done.

The "Rose and Jack" portion (leading up to the sinking) gets very tedious on repeated viewings. Very cliché.

Definitely the 2nd half, the first half makes me throw up in my mouth a little. Lol

The second half of course! That's what the whole thing's all about

2nd. Though the 1st has come a long way over time.

Well the first 30 mins or so when old Rose discovered her drawing was a little boring. There were only a few parts of the first half that I enjoyed.
( drawing, dance party, and "I'm flying" scene)

-the 2nd half was more intense and kept my eyes glued to the TV
