Second Class

Why is the second class in Titanic movies always neglected? It's always about the wealthy first and the poor third but most of us reading this would've been second class passengers.

The film, SOS Titanic (1979) focuses on 2nd class quite often and stars David Warner (Lovejoy) who plays 2nd class passenger Lawrence Beesley. It is my favourite Titanic film as I grew up watching this one, it was filmed aboard a real luxurious liner (the Queen Mary), and the story is about the real passengers and crew and what they experienced during the voyage.

Because nothing interesting ever happened in the second class?

It was all about the steerage passengers. And the first class.

Or.

I do not know.

From what I read, 2nd class was pretty much like 1st class, just not as quite as nice. They were both designed based on the Ritz Carlton. So there was really no need. Maybe some of the passengers that you thought were 1st were 2nd.

3rd class was designed for their passengers to basically be cargo. Ironically, the accommodations for 3rd class on the Titanic were nicer than on any an any ship at that point.

That was sort of the point behind White Star's ships - they couldn't beat Cunard for speed, so they strived to make theirs the most luxurious out there. Yes, even for 3rd class. This is allured to in the film when someone at the 1st class dining table asks Jack about his accommodation. His response was somewhat flippant ('The best I've ever seen, hardly any rats!') but there will have been some truth to it.

The whole point was to focus on the wealthy and fortunate vs. the poor and less fortunate.

Since second class is basically in the middle (normal)

They didn't put much emphasis on it
