The sexscene

Am I the only one who think it's really bad?

reply

Yep.

reply

Just trying to be humorous, but instead of Rose telling Jack to put his hands on her, it would have been more entertaining if she told Jack to grab her as#.

reply

Why do you consider it to be bad?

reply

I love the sex scene

reply

I like it...certainly isn't the best sex scene I've seen, but I don't think it was "bad" either.

reply

Not only bad but unbelievable. ridiculous to imagine a girl like her would ever have been allowed to run around with a third class passenger, still less have the opportunity to have sex with him.

reply

Were there class police onboard? You'll have to tell us more about them.

Titanic should have been R rated instead of PG-13. It should been rated R as it has related peril and violence, nudity, sensuality and brief language.

But, yes I liked it very much. It was very erotically done.

upper class girls were normally chaperoned. especially if their mothers were hoping to marry them off to someone desirable. Girls like Rose were not left to roam around on their own. Either her mother would be with her, or someone else reliable, like a maid, whose job would be to watch Rose like a hawk. have you really never heard of chaperones?

reply

Oh, I've heard of chaperones, I've just also heard of teenagers. The Romanov princesses had four chaperones, a battalion of guards and even Rasputin but would still regularly go missing for hours at a time.

Can you cite a source for that? I've studied the Romanovs for decades and am familiar with most of the literature available in English on the topic, and know of no such thing as regular vanishing acts. The girls did have a little more freedom than usual on a family visit to the Isle of Wight in 1909, but they didn't "go missing," they simply were reveling in the opportunity to explore the shops without being recognized, and while they didn't have bodyguards, they were accompanied by others in the royal entourage. Ditto when the older girls worked in the hospital during the war as nurses. Other palace personnel accompanied them.

The Grand Duchesses had some freedom of the grounds at the Alexander Palace,on "Children's Island" for instance, but their tutors and others were never far away. They led quite constrained and restricted lives in fact; they were far from spoiled, and when we look back at the strict conditions under which they were raised, it's hard not to be astonished at the austerity, given their wealth and privilege. Nevertheless, they seemed to be happy for the most part, though the oldest, Olga, did seem to understand the ominous shadow growing around them and suffered from depression towards the end.

reply

I recall hearing about a time when they were working as nurses during the war in which they left the palace without chaperones. They went exploring unrecognized to shops and then realized that they didn't have any money to buy anything. I can't recall were I read about such an incident, do recall hearing about it.

You have the gist of that correct (and there are multiple sources for the anecdote).

However, it was slightly different from what you remember. Olga and Tatiana, when working as nurses, wore a uniform that looked very much like old-fashioned nuns' costume, or Islamic dress today. The entire body was concealed except the face, with no hairline showing. So the girls were not recognizable.

They were taken to the hospital for their duties, and picked up afterwards, by a carriage and driver, accompanied by a lady-in-waiting (not, technically, a chaperone). One one occasion, the lady in waiting was detained, and sent the driver to pick up the girls. On their way back, they thought to go into a particular shop, and asked the driver to stop. They went into the shop but soon realized they didn't know how to make a purchase, nor how to use money if they had it. They went back to the carriage, went home and made inquiries as to how to buy things.

Significantly, however, they were not really "alone," as the driver waited for them outside. This was a far cry from supposedly "vanishing" on a regular basis for substantial lengths of time. That was never known to have occurred.

For those interested (and the Romanov story is as fascinating as Titanic's though in different ways), there's a recent biography by Helen Rappaport, The Romanov Sisters, which makes use of recently available material, letters and documents to provide a fuller picture of their lives than formerly available.

Go missing where?

reply

She wasn't allowed- that's why they were running away.

reply

It was really a sex scene. It was more the before and after.

reply

Exactly. If you're gonna do a sex scene, it should be tasteful.

reply

I agree with you, some people want too much raunchy when it comes to sex scenes, but I like the sex scene in Titanic, it wasn't too much but it was done in a way that was still tasteful (as another poster had said) and I could still see the passion between Rose and Jack in that sex scene.

If people want more raunchiness in sex scenes, then they're better off watching some porn instead.

reply

It was hardly a sex scene, I think. For me a sex scene show the act. This was more before and after. But it was sweet.

reply

It was like the ending of a sex scene. Brief, but very passionate and climactic.

reply

Before I read this thread, I didn't get what you meant with your OP. Was there ever a real sex scene? Not sure how you would call it a sex scene.

I would say the same as jajceboy said, a sex scene to me is showing the act, and that didn't happen. But to answer your question, what we did see - the before and after - I thought it was very sweet. So yes, I liked it. A lot actually.
