Rose was just a whore

I watch this movie now and Rose is just a whore cheating on her Fiance....

reply

She'd rather be Jack's whore than Cal's wife.

I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.

reply

reply

I do not think that is something to be proud of.

reply

Sorry you see it that way.

I'd rather be Jack's whore than Cal's wife. 

reply

Why? Jack wasn't much of a catch. He did not have much of a future. As much as I dislike Ruth, she certainly had a point about last "living a rootless existence". It was probably best that he didn't live and that Rose met the guy she eventually married. That's assuming she stayed with Jack, which I doubt.
It was probably best she didn't stay with Cal after she pulled her stunt.Surely Cal would have shown her what true misery was and she would have prayed for her boring rich life she previously feared, that would have been too poetic though.I do not understand why Cal wanted her after that.

reply

I do not understand why Cal wanted her after that.

Cal wanted her because he wanted to win against Jack. He didn't want her for love. She was more like a prize to him.

Jack wasn't much of a catch. He did not have much of a future. As much as I dislike Ruth, she certainly had a point about last "living a rootless existence".

But that's what Rose liked about him. He was a wanderer and didn't live life by rules. He lived life his own way wherever it took him. Rose saw her future with Cal and it terrified her. It was already planned out with no adventure. That's not who she was so she tried to kill herself. Jack made her feel like she could finally break free and be her own person. Idk about you, but I wouldn't want my life planned out like that. I like not knowing what I'm going to do in life, just like Jack says. That doesn't mean there's no future.

He did not have much of a future.

But you don't know that. You never know of someone's potential. Jack was still a very young guy with a lot of passion. No one has everything together at his age. I didn't. Neither did my boyfriend. We don't know of our future but we're not worried about it. As long as we're together that's all we need.

It's just my opinion. I'd rather choose love over money any day. It's not about what they can offer you. It's love. 

reply

great post flowerchild completely agree.

reply

Hmm, a choice I doubt many people would choose. But in all honesty being Jacks whore was very fitting. I wouldn't want her after she rolled with a guy from third class that she met a few nights prior. There was a reason they had health screenings for the third class before boarding the ship. Yuck!

reply

[deleted]

Whores are paid.

reply

True, Jack didn't have money. I suppose that would make her a slut. just kidding.

reply

We call them whores but there's women who are having sex for free. Who's the real loser, now? 

reply

Having sex with Cal would've kinda made her a "whore", since she was marrying him for his money.

It's funny how some people can't put down women without resorting to sexual insults. Rose was a cheat. Rose was an idiot. Rose was selfish, etc. Nope. It also has to be "slut" or "whore".

Predictable.

reply

Rose was NOT a whore. Besides, if had to choose between Billy Zane and Leonardo DiCaprio, I Would choose Leo.

Laugh while you can, Monkey Boy!

reply

Rose was NOT a whore.

Ah, what a compelling and detailed argument.

reply

Rose was NOT a whore.

reply

Thank you?

reply

A whore is a woman who gets paid for sex. If Rose had sex with Cal, she would've been more of a whore than if she had sex with Jack, who had no way to pay her.

I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.

reply

A whore is a woman who gets paid for sex.

Hmm... Let's see...

Rose was only marrying Cal to have access to his MONEY so she could have a better life...

and

Cal clearly didn't want Rose as a friend and life partner, he thought of her as his PROPERTY and treated her as such...

I think we finally figured out what was really going on.

Now can we put all these stupid "Rose Was A Whore" & "Cal Was The Victim" discussions about a couple of fictional characters from 19 year old movie to rest and move on...

Oh trust me, it won't end.

reply

Cal clearly didn't want Rose as a friend and a life partner

Was it? If he absolutely no concern for her feelings why did he even bother noticing her depression and asking her to let him into her heart. Damn, even the freaking writer said he loved her.

reply

Was it? If he absolutely no concern for her feelings why did he even bother noticing her depression and asking her to let him into her heart. Damn, even the freaking writer said he loved her.

He discussed her depression with her, because he didn't want to be married to some "sad sack"...

Asking her to let him into her heart... and choosing her dinner for her... was his way of trying to MOLD her into the woman HE wanted. He clearly did not accept her for who she was, because If he loved her for who she was, he would not have tried to change her.

...concern for her feelings...

Concern for her feeling? That is pure BS.

If you love someone and are concerned for their feelings, you don't go around insulting that person, in this case Rose's taste in art, in front of other people!

Damn, even the freaking writer said he loved her.

The writer is an idiot then!

Because it was completely obvious, Cal was in love with the IDEA of being married to someone like Rose and what that meant for his status in life. Ever hear of the term "TROPHY WIFE"? Not every man in 1912 was like Cal. As I said, if he was in love WITH Rose, he would have treated her better.

reply

It would be a waste of time for me to write a rebuttal highlighting the points(all of them) you are wrong about. You have obviously decicded to put your fingers in your ears and block out reasonable arguments showing what a petulant child you are. I mean, your go so far as to challenge the freaking writer, directer and prodducer of the film as if you know more about the film than he does.

reply

Murphed well they have a point. If the writer actually believes that Cal loved Rose in the traditional sense than that writer really is an idiot. At the end of the day it comes down to the person who write somethings opinion on what a subject is. So if the writer actually believes that Cals way of treating a woman is truly caring about them in that time frame they're going to write it that way for the movie which is what they did. Does this make it a fact just because it's in the movie? Hell no it doesn't so yes we can in fact challenge the writers of a movie.

reply

Damovieplayer Well said brother

reply

I suppose it shouldn't be surprising to see this stupif misogynistic *beep* here. Even fictional characters aren't safe from the crazed trolls.

reply

Do you have something to contribute to this discussion?

reply

LMAO...Finally, someone with a voice of reason!

reply

Rose was a whore but not for the reasons everyone thinks.

She was a whore because she was bought off by Cal for his money

THATs why she is a whore.

reply

Hmm, then there were a lot of whores of the Era. I would say she was a slut more than a whore, jack had no money.

reply

But she wasn't bought off with his money, that's the whole point of the movie. She wanted nothing to do with him or his money. He was still alive at the end of the movie and she took off and left him far behind her.

reply

It doesn't matter what she didn't want, she still voluntarily used his money to buy paintings and clothes.

reply

Clothes and paintings she lost when the ship went down, and she left the means to get more behind when she took off with nothing, except a diamond she never told anyone she had and ended up throwing into the ocean. It's rather difficult to say she wanted things when she hid rather than step out and tell Cal she had survived. She walked off the Carpathian with nothing but a man's overcoat and she made something of her life without Cal.

You called this character a whore because she made love with one man that she fell in love with once. If you are not married I sincerely hope you are a virgin, if you are married I sincerely hope you have never even cast your eyes on anyone but your spouse, Remember if you look at someone, no matter who and think they would be nice to have sex with them...you have committed sin with that person in your mind. It is so easy to slip into whoredom, no matter what sex you are. Remember also a whore is not necessarily a prostitute and a prostitute is not really a whore. Also men can be prostitutes as well as women. I also don't think you really know what the term 'whore' means, it doesn't mean having sex with someone for cash. That's just a job, not a vocation. The modern definition of 'whore' means someone who has sex with anyone but you.

I call the character a slut because she slept with a man while engaged to another. She was a selfish, inconsiderate skank. Her actions were not one of a decent lady but a scandalous whore. She had no qualms spending his money prior to the sinking, everything after that has no point being mentioned. It is highly unlikely that she thought she would have been able to patch things up with Cal. He did try to shoot her,but again that was because she wanted to act like a slut. She knew jack for less than a day and a half, and what she did with him was not love, she simply screwed a guy that had she shared some common interests and was attracted to, there was no love as she didn't know him. I am confused as to what point you are trying to make in you incoherent rant. Are you a whore? the offense you take seems to be personal so I can only conclude you and Rose have some common experiences, you seem to be knowledgeable of the practice of whoredom. If so, that doesn't make the offense any less trashy, just embrace your slutty side and not let anyone get you down in spite of your dirty ways. Oh by the way, are you off your meds and/or belong to a group-home?

reply

I call the character a slut because she slept with a man while engaged to another.

Rose had already told Cal she didn't want to marry him, it's not her fault he thought the bargain struck between him and her mother entitled him to own Rose. Rose was not his slave and she was free to have sexual intercourse with whoever she wanted to.

She was a selfish, inconsiderate skank. Her actions were not one of a decent lady but a scandalous whore.

Oh my word, pardon me while I stop choking on my laughter. Who on earth are you to set standards of decency? A judgemental prig with the gall to think it's up to you to set the world's standards? Rose gave no vows of eternal bending to Cal's orders, her mother tried to sell her daughter instead of going out and getting a job. Cal had no qualms at attempting to buy Rose. Let us take a look at who is really selfish and inconsiderate in the film, Rose's mother and Cal. Both of whom had no qualms at subjecting a young woman to a marriage whose prospect she loathed and didn't know that slavery was illegal. I really worry about your so-called standards. They seem to be more of the 'I own you so do what I say' variety' than 'I respect your autonomy and free will.' Not even God subscribes to the 'I own you' one.

And may I say how grateful I am that my standards of decency are not the same as yours. I rather think that respecting other people and their choices is better than standing on the 'I am holier than God himself' shaky ladder. I don't judge and find people wanting because I know very well that judging people is not my job, I rather think it's God's. He does it so much better than I and definitely you ever could.

Really now, when?

it's not her fault he thought the bargain struck between him and her mother entitled him to own Rose. Rose was not his slave and she was free to have sexual intercourse with whoever she wanted to.

Who said wasnt free to have sex? A decent person wouldn't have done that and it still makes her a slut.

Oh my word, pardon me while I stop choking

Don't tease me with thoughts of you choking.

Who on earth are you to set standards of decency?A judgemental prig with the gall to think it's up to you to set the world's standards?

Someone better than you who knows what decency is, that is who I am. Are you sure your chocking on laughter or getting in some practice for your evening employment.

Cal had no qualms at attempting to buy Rose. Let us take a look at who is really selfish and inconsiderate in the film, Rose's mother and Cal. What the hell are you talking about? Rose was not sold to anything. Her accepting the proposal was her choice and she should have said no, no one forced her into it. You posts reveal that you know zip about the the practices and lifestyles of the time period. You are hypocritical and uneducated....and probably a Trump supporter. Rose was not sold or forced to do anything. She was rude to people who did nothing to her and did not give Cal chance. He was kind to her and was very patient despite her rude behavior. She became increasingly vindictive and through her actions, was very insensitive towards her mother and Cal. Cal tried to make her happy and she said not one word of what she desired. She crept around with Jack behind Cals back and then taunted him with the nude drawing. Whatever bad things occurred to her was much deserved, and she should have gotten worse. Roses mother was very of the time and by that set of standards did nothing wrong. Her choices were very limited, but there was no deal between her and Cal. The engagement was voluntary, and if Rose wanted out she should have had the decency to tell him instead running around with Jack.

I really worry about your so-called standards. They seem to be more of the 'I own you so do what I say' variety' than 'I respect your autonomy and free will.' Not even God subscribes to the 'I own you' one.

Wow, you are certainly delusional. You posts tell us that you have some skeletons in your closet. You probably don't judge because you have no right as your life must be filled with some shameful transgressions, that would explain you defensiveness. You sound like a bitter washed-up shrew with shady past.

reply

When she ran from the dinner table and tried to kill herself.

I'm sorry I'm not going to read your bigoted load of garbage anymore. Your thoughts are not worth my time. I can't hold any respect for you so it's better that I leave before I tell you what an idiotic and intolerant person you are. I'm sorry you can't get anyone to like you enough to share the most intense and beautiful gift we were given from God, but someday you might start to believe in the loving G0d who gave us the gifts of love and tolerance, but if you enjoy being a Pagan who am I to tell you not to.

You sound like a bitter washed-up shrew with shady past.

Well I'm not a saint, but I was never that big a sinner either. But one thing I am sure of...I am loved and respected by my family, friends and God. It's a pity you have none...not love, not respect, probably no family or friends. But you can change. Go to a church, confess and repent of your hatred and intolerance. Forgiveness awaits you, all you have to do is try.

Lol, I see what I'm dealing with now, just another troll. There is no scene were she attempts to end her engagement nor is their a scene were she gets up and runs from the table. Trying to get in some trolling before the boards are taken down?

reply

I saw the movie, I'm fairly sure her attempt to throw herself overboard would qualify as her breaking off the engagement her mother and Cal forced onto her. In your eyes Rose is condemned for falling in love and Cal is admired. You pay no attention to his indifference to the deaths of the 3rd Class passengers and his attempt to have Jack murdered. Ugh, you are disgusting.

Also, when she tried to run back to Jack that was down below, she said "I'd rather be his whore than your wife..." Pretty sure, that means she broke it off with him. Even after she said that, he still held her back and said "I said no!"

I still don't understand why people seem to think if Rose simply called off the engagement, Cal would've been fine with it. They honestly believe Cal would've totally submitted to the fact that he lost Rose and there's nothing he can do about it. When he even said himself "I always win Jack, one way or another" Riiiiiighhhhtttt 

Well at least we are not pretending to be Holier than God and that we are the last word in what is right and wrong. I'll leave you with one of my favourite quotes...

Matthew 7:1-3King James Version (KJV)

7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

And as you have probably never read the New Testament I'll even give you another quote that might help you out (by the way 'ye' means 'you'...

John 8:7King James Version (KJV)

7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

People can fall in love in an instant and God gave us the gift of being close to the people we love when we 'make love' with them. Rose loved and was loved throughout her life. Poor Cal never loved anyone and when he lost the only thing that he though gave him any kind of worth (his money) he committed the worse sin he could have, he killed himself. Now that really was a sin. Rose didn't need Cal's millions to have a good life, Cal couldn't face life without those same millions. I think in the end Rose probably forgave Cal, pity he committed the one unforgivable sin.

And yes, your take on the film is very much in a minority of one.

You are either on drugs or have the mentality and intelligence of a mentally challenged 12 year old. You do know these are fictional characters, so anything you mention about who loved Rose or if she forgave him is irrelevant. she didnt wanna be with Cal from the beginning it was an arranged marriage..rose was 17 years old she wanted to have fun she fell inlove with jack...someone she was able to be herself with. She had to pretend to be happy around Cal. it was totally different. THINGS HAPPEN..

i bet you $100 youve cheated on someone.

reply

It eras not an arranged marriage, she could have rejected the proposal if she wanted to. This was the Edwardian period not the Middle Ages. Also, when the heck was she appear happy? From the very beginning she was behaving erratically with her insulting people for no reason and being aloof towards Cal, she even when he gave her the diamond. Lastly, there was no love, it was lust, convenience and shared interests. She didn't know Jack nor he Rose as they only knew each other for less that 48 hours.

reply

she was 17 you can tell her mother was a pain in the ass and her mother tells her when she's buttoning her dress about cal and his money and you can see rose was unhappy the only time she was happy happened to be around jack . .. he knew she wouldn't jump (Idk) besides jack was a cutie . She was in her own words" poor little rich girl " .. she was around rich ppl all her life and jack wasn't rich and she took a like to him maybe she hated being part of her family and was curious about a life like the one jack had .. Idk I can't speak for her lol it's just a movie but I def don't think she was a whore !

reply

However I thought she was a b*tch cause she made jack draw a picture of her in cal's necklace nude . BUT what do you want she happened to be a bratt and she probably thought that that was funny but remember she was only 17 yeads old. The scene where her and mother were arguing about rose being selfish ( when her mother stared at her cause I guess she realized) kinda proved rose was held down by her mother all her life .. you can pretty much tell she hated being at dinner with her mother and cal ' but she had so much fun when jack took her to do the Irish dance you can see she was actually happy . Idt I would've been happy with cal either he was too serious and he wasn't fun at all... he thought women belonged in the kitchen kinda like this moron who made this post .. no girl wants a guy like that . Roses mother was a selfish biotech which led to her daughter being pretty much miserable
