Cate Blanchett is absolutely gorgeous in this

Just saw this film on dvd and loved it. It's been retitled 'The Wedding Party'
and a part of it is (duh) filmed at the wedding. The flashbacks of Guy (Richard Roxburgh) and Jenny (Frances O'Connor) and their relationship when they were both in their 20s take up most of the film.

The cast was excellent but it was Cate as Lizzie that stole my heart. She must have only been about 27 when she filmed this and she was already an excellent stage actress who had appeared with Richard Roxburgh in Hamlet.

It was also fun to see the outfits worn in 1997 and see how typical and similar an Australian wedding is to one in the USA. The guests even danced to the electric slide. The songs were a hoot and watching the wedding singer belt out 'We've only just begun' was worth the price of admission.

As much as I like Blanchett, her character was rather bland & boring here, it was Frances O'Connor's character and her interactions with Roxburgh's character that made the movie worth watching....In the following years, however, lady luck didn't shine on O'Connor's career like it did on Blanchett's...
