seriously, one of the worst films ever.

It's just laughable how bad it is.

If i had pulled my eyeballs out and put them in battery acid it would have been happier experience.

The dance scenes are excellent, as is the cinematography. I hated it when I was 14, but ten years later I found it quite enjoyable.

Very nice and gentle movie.

The dance scenes were amazing.

The movie is a tango within a tango with multiple layers.
Good music.

I think it's a beautiful movie, the dance scenes and music are spectacular...as are the scenes in colour where Sally imagines her script coming to life, it's extremly moving and vivid. Sally isn't an actress but that's the point, the film isn't supposed to be perfect, the acting is at times akward.

A movie that looks at adult relationships and how power is shared / used is not something one watches casually. A great deal of subtle insight is shared in a single phrase or look. There is nothing random as far as I can see in this movie. The honesty of how their work mode separates (or appears to) them from their partners was quite telling.

For people who like to chew slowly and deeply taste their food, this movie will give you much to think about.

I bought the DVD and showed it to my 17 year old daughter (who teaches tango herself). She liked the film but shared she didn't think many adults would understand it.

Her favorite line was when Sally Potter is asked why the film is in French by the LA financiers and she replies, "Because they are French".

Very nicely put and I agree that some of the film's purpose is exploring relationship dynamic through tango dancing. After the performance on stage when Sally and Pablo argue I found their dialogue most affecting. Pablo accusing her of inhibiting his freedom to dance and she accusing him of not being able to deal with her as someone used to leading.
