Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert said "Most dances are for people who are falling in love. The tango is a dance for those who have survived it, and are still a little angry about having their hearts so mishandled. The Tango Lesson is a movie for people who understand that difference."

This is one of my fav films of all time and to be honest I never even looked for a 'point'. I think the point of this film is simply to sit back, watch and appreciate it.

There are many depending on where you start from when you watch the film. At its core it's about being an artist and critiques certain views of art, e.g. the film produced who says a writer should know everything and be god. But it's a very human film as it shows present struggles, symbolised in learning to tango, set against historical struggles, e.g. being Jewish, or Argentinian/latin American, Jacob's epic fight etc. I found it a powerful statement about men and women and finding the strength, rather than the tension, in attraction and work and when to lead and when to follow.
