A little bit of an ego trip by the director/leadactress etc...

The dancers are amazing in this movie, however, Ms Potter comes across as very much in love with and full of herself and you get the feeling this is one heck of an ego trip for her. If she'd cast a better actress in the role she played it may have been a better movie.

Quite the contrary she gives plenty examples of her struggle both as a writer, as a director vying for funding and as a woman. If anything she suppresses her ego to express the tango both as a participant and as a film maker.

I'm watching it right now. The 14th time in the last few weeks. (I should really get a life)
I disagree completely.
SP is a totally unselfish director. She uses herself as a vehicle to explore her love for Tango (and since this is a little bit autobiographical) and for Veron. (As there is no question there was intimacy and attraction and rejection involved)
Her willingness to show herself in the harsh light of the camera (and she is not conventionally beautiful at all although I find her face lovely for its gently worn look) with very little makeup is exceedingly brave. She is at once vulnerable and yet extremely strong and uncompromising.
Another actress would have been too beautiful and it would then be a story about 2 beautiful people.
As such it is about the inequality of a relationship, the push and pull, how one must give a lot and not expect anything back. And hopefully the dance will work.

A little Slivovitz and back to bed.

I intend to live forever. So far so good.
