WHY are Middle Eastern films so very good?

I understand that I least am exposed to only a few films at a stretch, but I search the Internet to stream them, watch them on TV, and buy what I can find on the web. I have yet to be dissatisfied. Making such general and sweeping statements is not like me, but I have yet to see a film produced in a Middle Eastern country that I didn't enjoy.

There is beauty and heart and humor that definitely lacks in many Hollywood big-budget productions. Without millions of dollars and computer manipulation, they have to rely on the story. Perhaps that is why I like and find compelling.

*I am remiss in adding many films to my various lists, by the way. I do get lazy.

I've only seen about 10, but they've all been SO original... One movie whose title I forget doesn't break the 4th wall, it creates one!

Abbas Kiarostami is probably the best in that region, but I'd love to hear more recommendations.
