The scene of passengers singing in the subway

This scene blew me away, must have seen it twenty times over the years and it still haunts me.
Also, how flawlessly it cuts to the next scene in the bar (reminiscent of Hoppers painting Nighthawks), the woman telephoning at the bar and the waitress, both singing, amazing.

But... if Andersson is so accurate and precise when composing a scene, why is the framing off in the subway scene?
The woman on the left and Kalle, the man with ash on his face, are well composed, but the man ion the right is halfway outside the frame. why? There must be a reason Andersson decided to compose the shot like this, but I can't figure out why..

Anyway, fantastic film. 10/10 in my book.

Here's the part I'm referring to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=so5M8Mgf50c
