did she or didn't she?

hey..i saw this movie years ago, and every now and then when i think of JG's movies, this pops into my head. i remember the end vaguely, and i am a bit confused. we never hear a gunshot or not, so does she kill herself anyway? i think the last shot of her is when she is at the table lookin all sad and stuff, gun in hand, etc. i think a vague part of the story was that she wanted to kill herself on her 30th birthday, at the exact time she was born. freaky. so did she or didn't she? heh..please tell.

It's been a long while since I saw this too (six years or so), but I definitely came away with the feeling that she had killed herself because after that scene we saw the Arlis character trying to move on with his life; no longer seeking the superficial type of woman that he was after at the movie's opening.

You know, I was curious too at first. But then I thought about it and figured that what we as viewers were supposed to take away was that it doesn't matter whether she did or not because there could be lots of people hurting out there and we should care about all of them. I think that's why Arliss changes his ad to be inviting to anyone who wants to talk or needs a friend.

We never find out but it's not really important to the story in my opinion. The main aspect to me was that Arliss changed and he learned to be more honest with himself and other people. But again to answer your question..the movie never says whether she did or didn't though Arliss believes that she probably did.
