Why was the lawyer only looking for "reputable" clients??

If your kid is killed in a school bus accident like that, why would your "credibility" have any bearing on your right to sue!? It wouldn't matter whether you smoke weed or not--your kid is still dead due to no fault of your own! That part made no sense to me.
