Yuck, and I Don't Get It.

So there was incest? I didn't catch that. I recall Sarah Polley's character kissing some guy so I guess it was her father. Double yuck. But why would the suite be dead if the bus driver operated the bus at an unsafe speed? And why, in the final scene, was Sarah Polley's character walking and disappearing?

reply

Yes, father daughter incest. And the reason the lawsuit would have been dead, is because they wanted to PROTECT the bus driver from legal action. The lawyer's entire point was that SHE was not responsible, and rather the error was in the BUS(missing or loose "bolt"), or the GUARDRAIL being to weak.

point is, the bus driver was a good lady. she loved the kids, and they all wanted her on their side. Plus we know that she WASN'T driving too fast. Once she takes the blame (for going too fast), nobody else can get into trouble... she's done for.

You (electronod) are right to question the relevance of the bus driver's speeding. See my post a bit down, regarding vicarious liability.

You really shouldn't go on the boards til after you watch the film.

It wasn't that they were trying to protect the bus driver in order to blame someone else. It was that the father who had driven behind the bus already said she was going 50 MPH. The lawyer knew that the girl was lying.

Also, the final scene flashes back to her babysitting. She puts the book down and walks to the window where a car's headlights flash in the window. (The dad arriving home.)
