It doesn't make any sense why....

They would cut his finger off first thing does it?

I mean I get that it's obviously to raise the stakes for their situation, but think about this from a real life point of view, if you kidnapped him would you really want to first thing, without even talking to him, cut his damn finger off, giving him a perfect reason to be pissed off and want to kill you?

For all they knew when they told Charlie the situation he might be "sure, I'll help you out" or he might not be happy, but if you succeeded and let him go unscathed no harm no foul he'd have no good reason to want to kill you.

It seems like you wouldn't cut his finger off unless he was being uncooperative, I mean they don't even give the finger to anybody as a threat making the whole thing pointless.

This is an alright movie, but certainly not a great one.

It's a movie and this is not real life.

You can ask that question with any movie ever made.

I'm with calhoun on this. There was no need to cut the finger off. That was too extreme. If anything, they should have at least taken a finger off a cadaver which T.K. probably could have gotten his hands on. Then wrap his hand up, pour some blood on the wrap, and go from there. Funny thing is, Charlie never really ever seemed all that pissed off about the finger. It's like it didn't even factor in on his decision to help them or not.

They cut off Charlie's finger because the alleged kidnappers allegedly cut off the alleged victim's finger and sent it to her family. They did not know, or necessarily even suspect, that Charlie was involved with the alleged abduction, and they didn't care. As Jay Mohr's character says, "He's not guilty, but he's RESPONSIBLE." A major subtext of this film is the complete disconnect there is between what arrogant trustfund preppies who have had their lives just HANDED to them think what they know about professional criminals and the REALITY of what the pro bad guys think, and do. Did you actually watch the movie?
