Wow

Wow, I can't believe no-one posted on this film's board yet. I thought this movie was somewhat popular

Very strange... must have been deleted sometime, I in any case refuse to believe noone shows interest in this movie...
...and to whoever may read this later on, yes, I realise I'm responding to someone who posted this over half-a-year ago ;)

I love this movie too, although when it was released here in the UK, I was the only person in the cinema watching it! I've only ever met two other people who have seen this film.

I have it on reliable authority the the total UK takings for the cinema release of this film were about 37 quid!

That sounds about right.

(BTW total coincidence I saw your post "only" a month after you posted it, I got an e-mail about a reply on a very very old e-mail address I don't use anymore but decided to open since I had nothing better to do)

I don't think I've ever met anyone who's seen this movie, except my sister who has been forced to watch it with me a couple of times. She doesn't really like it.

I haven't watched it for a couple of years, but this "surprise" e-mail brings back some quotes.

Me and my communist goat are going to watch it now.

Well, here it is, 2011 ... and I just watched my DVD copy for the first time in a couple of years. Not everything in the film works, but the cast is pretty uniformly excellent and gives it their best. You know what you're in for when the film starts and you are immediately reminded of "Chariots of Fire." LOL

Not to everyone's taste, but if you like this sort of spoof, it makes you laugh in many places ... especially if you've seen most of the Merchant-Ivory films. I would not have found this very tiny message board if I hadn't just decided out of the blue tonight to watch the DVD. There ARE still fans of this film out here. (I'm American too, but I love so-called British humor.)

I think this film is getting its terrestrial network broadcast premiere on ITV on 1st June 2012.

Strange to think with this cast, especially with Peter Ustinov could take over 14 years to get screened.

And I second previous sentiments. American wondering how there's such infrequent love for this delightfully witty movie. I've watched it twice today. True story.
