I had never seen such a low rating for a movie, and I don't understand why. I liked this movie, altough it's not my type, and it was also very funny

I saw Steel on TV this weekend. I can't understand why it only got a 2.9. I've seen films that are much much worse.I enjoyed Steel. It's a good Sunday afternoon movie (Channel 5 in the UK was showing it as the family movie). It has some cute scenes and Shaq isn't that great an actor, but he's not that bad either.

Simple the movie is not good enough for people to spend time logging onto IMDB and rating it positively but bad enough for people come along and give 1.

shareShaq sucks. His "armor" looks like spray-painted Styrofoam. Judd Nelson is the least menacing antagonist I've seen in a while. "Sparky" is a terrible character portrayed by a worse actress. The reactions of the henchmen when they're shot are laughable. Richard Roundtree references Shaft and Shaq references his real life free throw shooting woes. The story is terrible.
Having said all that, I give it a 4. For me, a 5 is a totally average movie with a few standout moments of enjoyment. This movie was far from great, but despite all the flaws it's watchable, and the action sequences are adequately done. For me, anything below 4 is the kind of movie you want to turn off (and typically do) before it's over, but this one didn't feel that way to me.
I wouldn't say STEEL is that bad.
I'm amazed it has a lower rating than SLEEPAWAY CAMP IV: THE SURVIVOR, and that film is mostly made of random archive footage from the previous three films. And parts 2 and 3 weren't really that good to begin with.
