favortie quotes

I LOVED this movie! I rented it because im a fan of PSH, but William H Macy, and Alec Baldwin were just hilarious. I love the constant movement between characters. It keeps you interested throughout, and the writing was brilliant. I thought it was absolutely hilarious!!

"how can i write a movie called "the old mill" when we dont have an old mill"
"well first your gonna have to change the title"

"How are you getting along with these nice people?"
"like dykes and dogs"

brilliant! haha

"You treat me like a child." Claire Wellesly (Sarah Jessica Parker), as an all purpose excuse in every situation she fumbles.

"Stupidity got us into this mess, why can't it get us out?" - Will Rogers

reply

Haha

"I'm not a child. I have feelings!"

Maybe that's NOT my favorite line, but it's the most memorable for me because of how much I hate it. Either the scriptwriter cannot identify with childhood anymore, or Claire cannot. Either way, one of them has advertised a very unreasonable statement.

And, you know, treating her like a child was not the problem. It was an excuse for having no other thing to say. She is a regretful woman who, having physically exposed herself before, is so ignorant of what kinds of reactions that brings about. Does she not know that anything she does in the spotlight will jeopardize any respect she might retain from others? As that one rude guy said, "You started it." So no, he wasn't treating her like a child, but a naive adult.

Besides, how does Claire see adults treating children...

Hands down, the "have-soda-coming-out-my-nose" line was:

The car crashes, overturns...Hoffman helps Baldwin out of the wreck, and Baldwin simply says, "So, that happened."

reply

"So, thaaaat happened."

Great quote. So-so movie.

reply

Yesssss, that has got to be "the" line in the movie. :)

reply

I believe that is the best quote out of any movie. Hands down.

I've made a huge mistake

"We're in Waterford, Vermont. Where is it?! THAT'S where it is!"

"I'm just talking out loud."
"What other way is there to talk?"

"Her tits, her tits, her tits, her tits, her tits."

(and many other great quotes, many of which I can't think of right now. I must respectfully disagree with the last poster who said it was a "so-so movie." If more movies like this were made, I'd be a happier movie fan. : )

reply

"We're in Waterford, Vermont. Where is it?! THAT'S where it is!"

"Where is it?" Doesn't the director also yell into his cellphone, "Get a BIGGER map!", which adds so much to the laugh.

"that wasnt nice"
"oh really? so sue me in the world court"

Yes, and good job spotting yet another Hague reference... The Hague is the city location where the World Court / International Criminal Court is located, and subsequently where the US & its allies were convicted of war crimes against Yugoslavia for their March 24-June 10, 1999 assault (didn't catch that on CNN).

Anyone know the idea behind this particular bit of Mamet alliteration?

I thought the implication was, "Considering what a bastard X is, The Hague is as good a guess as any."

reply

"It's Marty, on the Coast..."

"Of course he's on the Coast; Where do you think he'd be: In the Hague?"

Somebody help me on this, please. There was a great line about the electorial college, but I don't remember it exactly. Thanks in advance

This is most of the end of the scene in Hoffman’s room with Rebecca Pidgeon and a naked Sarah Jessica. After explaining that they were having a “script conference” this is a paraphrase from memory of the conversation snippet that followed;

Hoffman: You Believe That?
Pidgeon: I do.
Hoffman: But it’s absurd.
Pidgeon: So is our electoral process, but I still vote.
Hoffman: Wait. Do you really think the electoral process is absurd?
Pidgeon: I used to date a politician.
Hoffman: You broke up with him?
Pidgeon: It was time for a change

reply

The line was about the electoral college, but I forgot what was said.

Haha, you just nailed some of my favorite (and oft overlooked) lines...

Baldwin's delivery was once again awesome!

Love the "so that happened" line/scene :)

So many good lines -

How about this one...
PSH: "You know, you know, that's a lie. That's a real fault."
WHM: "It's not a lie. It's a gift for fiction."

I adore David Mamet's work...
