I guess in the future any moron can get into Harvard

HowTF is Johnny supposed to go to Harvard scoring in the low 30s on his math exam? The movie seems to go out of its way to show us that Johnny is not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. Yet his father some how thinks he is going to Harvard? Does Harvard like become a tech school like Devry or something?

if you got monies you go anywhere you want to.

Maybe it is so that if you have enough money you can get into any school. After all, didn't Bush go to Yale? For us little people though you could have a 4.0 GPA and there is still a good chance you won't get accepted.

If you watch carefully, you will notice that Starship Troopers exposes the Establishment as a terrible farce.

The general of the human army is hiding in a closet, while the mobile infantry died to the last one defending that outpost.
The space fleet battle cruisers are crashing into each other like headless chicken during the invasion of the Arachnid planet.

This is a reversal of values and principles that have been instilled into our minds. We have been brought up with the concept that institutions like Harvard or Oxford or Yale etc. are for exceptional students, and stuff. It's a lie as big as the idea that the military complex exists to protect us from alien invaders.

The military leviathan exists to oppress you, not to protect you.
The school system exists to indoctrinate you, not to develop you.

Wow, that was some deep *beep* right there. 
Seriously, I thought I was fkn cynical. 

However, for the most part I agree with you. 

The general was hiding because he learned the brain bug was real, Intel he needed to pass on to command. And had it captured him, the brain bug would have learned that humans knew of its existence making it more difficult to capture.

The space ships crash after being disabled by the bugs.

So yeah, watch carefully and maybe unplug from the late night conspiracy wackadoos. The world is not a nice place and is run by not nice people making military force a necessity to preserve sovereignty.

Way to go, giving us an explanation to let a sniveling coward off the hook. NO that’s not why he was hiding in the locker you fool. The truth was evident to all the other soldiers & us the viewing audience soon enough by his continued cowardly conduct.

So much so that Jean (Michael Ironside’s character) was going to kill him, but he was stopped by Rico. That’s a serious thing to do & that could be his life if his superiors decided to court martial him for it.

Rasczack didn't know about the general's mission, it was revealed later by Carl. Anything else you need explained, let me know.

in the shower scene one of rico's friends actually says he joined up because he got grades good enough for harvard but it was too expensive without the federation paying for it. 'course, then the smart guy goes and bites it in the invasion.

baby can you dig your man?
he's a righteous man.

reply

He'd likely have to re-sit the exams or something.
But then doesn't *every* rich parent like to think their kid is going to Harvard, or Yale, or Oxford and the like?

reply

Parents are rich and connected. Not that hard a stretch.

reply

Just in the future, really?
A small reminder that this is the same institution that gave G.W. Bush an M.B.A.

Case closed.

You beat me by 7 years, damnit!!!

reply

Hey!
I've taught at Devry and you can't get in if you score 30's on math either!

I was born in the house my father built

Ivy League morons are common.

They let George Bush into Yale.

We live in a society where NBA players have been to university because their playing skills, not their math skills. To add to that Rico's family was rich.
You see this on TV everyday, they even made a mockery in South Park when Cartman visits University of Boulder Colorado to find out how they manage to not pay their Athletes (slaves)

Yes, but not Ivy League. There are many so-called "athletic schools" which offer scholarships to athletes with the focus being their athletic ability but Ivy league focuses on academic ability.

I also hear that if your father was an alumni you are almost always accepted.

If you remember in the movie it was his father who wanted to force him into Harvard. It is true alumni have preferential treatment when it comes to their children that is precisely why they insist on the same school. Then there are the money donations

VERY TRUE I DID NOT CONSIDER THIS AT ALL

Yes, if his father was alumni then I could see Johnny getting in with sub-par math scores or perhaps given the chance to re-take it.

Ivy League is about sports.

That game looked like arena football.
