All of the robots were played by women.

I had a suspicion during the movie and checked here to confirm, yes: all the biomechnical warriors are played by female actors.

Given that you can see almost nothing of their bodies under the armor (similar coverage as a Star Wars stormtrooper), I wonder why the casting is so specific.

I am not saying that it shouldn't have been women or that women can't be silver killing-machines, it is just something I noted.

Perhaps it was a costuming decision.

It's because women generally are slimmer so they can give a better appearance of a sleek killing machine, or in other cases skeletons and zombies.

Two of them are called Bongi and Finbarr - those seem like guys names to me, but I could be wrong.

The probably chose women because of the sinuous and graceful way the warriors moved. Might have been dancers.

No wonder I kept looking at their behind =p

Seriously, those ninja cyborgs were ridiculously funny. Easily my favorite aspect of the movie

It was mostly played by women but there was also a skinny guy playing one of them as well.

The reason was so that the robots looked slim and didn't have that "bulky" robocop style look to them.

I got this info from a youtube post on someone who worked on the film:

Wonderful Audio/Video Editing Job you did on the widescreen trailer! The slashing Bio-Mechanical Warrior (BMWs) Robots, were fabricated at Screaming Mad George's FX Shop where me and 30 other talented FX Technicians "brought those BMWs to life". Skinny Women (and one even skinnier Dude) were inside the silver suits to avoid a bulky RoboCop Look. Glad I got the chance to meet The Late Great Dennis Hopper. And I have a half torso BMW still glowing in my Sudio!
