Sorry, but I didn't find much drama or conflict in this. Yes, I know the guys holding Marky Mark were supposed to be the bad guys, but then he went into his story about his own son dying, and it kind of made his anti-American point of view seem sincere.
Otherwise, you have Clooney's commander as the bad guy for (how dare he!!) expecting Clooney to follow orders. Not to mention Clooney giving up billions of dollars in order to save a few local villagers. Stupid !
The film needed a really really evil Iraqi to give it some tension.

Or maybe they just wanted to show that we're all humans.
This was a post-war (sort of) movie, so they had no reason to fight each other.

You obviously missed the part where he's shown in a compound dedicated to the storing of pilfered goods from Kuwait and the torture of innocent Iraqi's whose only crime was to speak out against Saddam? Yes his rage is a truly understandable one!!! Sympathy for his wife and son yes. Him? Not a chance! I'd have blown his head off.

This movie had tons of conflict and that is where the tension is build.

Wow!! First, it wasn't billions and I'd surrender it gladly to save all those people from almost certain death. What if you were one of those "local villagers"? Your life wouldn't be worth saving? And no, I'm not an anti-Bush liberal.
