Underrated

I dont get the hate for this film. Granted its not perfect but I think it was very faithful to the comics. The tone and look were great. I think its one of the better comic book films that I have seen.

We take comic book movies for granted now, but this movie is basically responsible for the modern trend.

Special effects are great. Clown is still impressive.

Indeed.

Gotta disagree with you guys on all accounts. The effects are garbage, even back then I remember thinking they looked like puke (they couldn't even animate the devils mouth moving). Clown is the most annoying piece of crap character ever put on film and not in a good way. I also don't think this had much to do with the current round of comic book movies - it's not like this kicked off a whole series of them or anything.

They had the punisher movie in the 80s - did that start a trend? How about superman from the 70s? Maybe the hulk TV show from back then too? No of course not. This is a bad movie, just accept it and enjoy it anyway like we all do with certain movies. It's cool you guys like it, not a prob obviously, but let's not pretend it's an objectively good movie and nobody realized it except you two for some reason...

I really liked this film; granted its a bit cheesy at times, but overall a solid comic book film to say the least. Loved the Clown (hilariously demented), and the effects were pretty good (despite a few glitches). Despite the cheesy scenes, I really feel it had an emotional story as well.

This film is terrible. Easily amused.

That is a shocking statement

Spawn effects were and still are amazing, Leguizamo is just perfect as the Violator and the soundtrack is awesome. The rest is garbage, but all in all it's a somewhat enjoyable flick.
