underrated movie

I really agree with that. Obviously this family had it's problems, but whose family doesn't? And the fact that in the end the family comes together and realizes that, like Mama Jo said, family has to stay together to stay strong, that is just a great message that we don't here in movies nearly enough.

I remember when I first heard about Soul Food and I had bought the soundtrack and I thought it would be a great movie because of the neat music it had. So I got the movie for my birthday and I was surprised at how great Soul Food was even though it was a little sad when the family finds out that their mother is ill and dying but they are still able to show their love for her through her recipes for her soul food. I think part of the reason why Soul Food became a surprise hit was Boyz II Men's hit song A Song For Mama and that song is a such a wonderful song about the love that a mother can give because even though your mother may be gone her love still lives on. I was even surprised that a TV show of the same name followed because I didn't think Soul Food would be a hit and it really should deserve a sequel
