If this is true, I'm glad these castings didn't pan out. Berry, King, and Pinkett would have been both grating and too 'showy' in these roles.

Well, I'm glad that didn't happen. I like all of those actresses and they're good at what they do in their own right but Vivica, Vanessa, and Nia were these characters. Jada would've annoyed me as Bird. No one could've played Maxine better than Vivica (I miss the old Vivica ). Halle could not have done Teri justice.
shareI could see both of them roles being played by both actresses. I just think that Terri wouldn't have been as refined if Halle Berry played it (Halle while refined, is a bit rough around the edges)

Regina could have done Maxine....but not bird.......
Jada couldnt be any of the ladies..... Maybe Faith...
Regina has already played her "Maxine" role: In "This Christmas", she was the daughter who happened to stay home to raise her family, cook and help run the family business, while Sharon Leal played the "Terri" role of the daughter who went off to college and took a high-profile, high paying job. I also can't see Jada as the baby sister; her natural stage presence is quietly strong with very fiery undertones, unlike Nia's portrayal, which I found to a bit too coquettish and clueless for Jada's style.

shareI heard this awhile back. I could be wrong but I think I remember hearing Angela Bassett was considered for Teri as well.

Jennifer Lopez was considered for the role of faith but she was doing selena and anaconda during that time..
shareHalle as Teri wouldn't have been as edgy, icy, sophisticated and ultimately as compelling as Vanessa was in the role. Vanessa played her to perfection. As Teri, she was almost eerie with the cold stares and clinical tone. I think Halle would have played her as more childish and callow.
I image that Regina King would have played Maxine as a brat. At the time, I don't think she was old enough or ripe enough for that kind of role.
Jada as Bird, I think it might've been the reversal of Regina King as Max. She would have been too worldly and earthy for the character. Nia Long's youthful and relaxed spirit at that time, I think complimented the role.
