I totally agree. I watched this again last night and it holds up well, my son and I dig it out every few years and it's a favorite. Visually stunning and just plain good entertainment. Todd is the bad ass everybody will want around when the *beep* goes down!

Really? I just watched it in the bath and thought it was pretty crappy. Its like a mishmash of Terminator, Predator and Aliens (the colony looks similar, the music sounds the same) but with amateur production qualities. I'm pretty sure Paul Anderson knowingly makes stupid high-concept action films because he knows they reliably make lots of money in the domestic/international markets.

It was on cable so I hit the record button. Of interest I looked up on this message board to see the comments before I watched it again.

Russles portrayal of Todd is brilliant. People say that he is 'shell shocked' in the movie but in a way that is totally true.

Todd is a soldier. Trained and brainwashed from the very first days to follow orders. He does not converse, have hobbies, or any form of human style interaction. Pleasure is essentially 'No Pain' and for him that is all it it.

Todd and his kin have been 'programmed' to serve and fight. And any other role for them is out of their scope. When one of the other after being dismissed as janitors asks for a weapon they are told that they are no longer soldiers - their only part of consistency in their lives. And they just do not have the formative structure to work through it.

What is heartening is the way the Todd - through interaction with the surviors starts to learn some of the other aspects of being a human - even crying when he is removed from the only other fellowship that he is in.

It be interesting to see how the others start to learn what it is to be human..

It's one of those film I like to watch every year or two. I don't think it's a great movie in term of originality or artistic a achievement but the cast is good and good in it and it's just good fun to watch.
