Very Underrated

The imdb rating of Soldier is disgracefully low. Solid acting, led by the always impressive Kurt Russell and a unique story that provokes interesting questions. It reminded me of Pitch Black.

I, too, enjoyed this film a lot. I rented it one afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. I like sci fi, but a lot of it is just action with little story or some kind of monster thing is the center of the plot. Some of those are good, but it gets tiresome. I agree that it deserves a better rating, but it fascinates me when some people express their opinions on IMDb and I realize that they didn't get the point of a particular film.

Yeah, it's pretty frustrating.

My name's Plissken.

I like it a lot, saw it at the cinema, bought it on DVD when it came out, and recently Bluray.
Not sure the story Is entirely original, it is after all essentially a remake of Shane set in space according to the director.

reply

Interesting, I was thinking Shane for some of the scenes as well.

reply

Agreed. I love this movie.

reply

I wouldn't say it's a completely original story. But I do agree, underrated and under appreciated.

I agree I love this film.

reply

I agree too! let's up the rating!

reply

It's not dumbed down for mass appeal. Kurt Russell kicked ass in Soldier.

I love this movie. If I had my way, I would have expanded the combat sequence montage before Todd is decommissioned. The vignettes of battle that are shown are so interesting, yet they don't show enough. It's still effective enough to show his veteranship, but I loved the idea of a true space marine and all the variety of terrestrial combat that would be required.
