Opening scene in 1800's - driving me crazy

I just started watching this movie and something is driving me crazy.

I don't think I've seen this movie before, but I could be wrong. Now that I have "senior moments" there are lots of movies that I think I haven't seen and midway through I relize I have.

But I know I've seen that opening scene where the meteorite hits and the wave of snow catches the Eskimo and dogs. Could that have been also in another movie? Or maybe by the end of this movie I'll realize I've seen the whole movie before:)

It reminded me of the X-files - maybe the film they did. I'll have to watch the x-files film again and see.
