Ending help! (Spoilers)

I need a bit of help with the ending, how did Helen know about what the Monty Python boys said when James asked her?? Cos she hadn't come across him before apart from when he picked up her earring in the beginning of the movie! I might be missing something!

Well, it's possible that she was already familiar with the quote --- in her *other life*, when he'd asked her, she had come up with a Monty Python reference, just not the one he meant (showing that she wasn't ENTIRELY unfamiliar with MP). Though, I doubt that's the case.

They were trying to make it similar to earlier in the movie when she *knew* that there would be boat race with purple and white shirts. It's as if both versions of her life had actually happened sort of... It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, really.

I think it also might be that the Helen that ended up surviving was the real Helen, and the alternate life occurred in her head while she was unconscious at the hospital... Or, it's just a *what if* thing that never happened.

I just took it as a sign she was 'meant' to be with James all along and that it was meant to happen this way - so the alternate life was like an echo of her life to come, which is how she 'knew' there'd be a race and knew the right line to say.

...she said, 'Walk on over to this bit of shade; I will wrap you in my arms.'...
