Just watched this for the first time, and couldn't believe how in some scenes Helen has short blond hair, and some she has long brown hair.

That's not a gaff. In one reality, she never cut her hair. In the other, she did. So some scenes, her hair is long, other scenes it's short. Did you have the volume up when you watched the movie?

It's explained clearly.

That is because blond Helen is composed of conventional matter, and brunette Helen is composed of antimatter. They ae complementary, but cannot exist in the same space for fear of nuclear annihiiation. Lydia is composed of sugar and spice and everyhitng nice.
