Gimicky! Gimicky! Gimicky!

I think the movie is any thing but gimmicky and the mechanism of the sliding doors is a good means to explore alternative destinies; this time in a very non-pretentious, non-sci-fi manner.

I thought it was quite a sensible portrayal of the events and fairly thought-provoking, too.

i wouldn't have minded the gimmick if anything of the slightest interest had happened in either life. But nothing did.

That's why it's called "Sliding Doors" and not "Crime And Punishment"...
