I watch it at least once a year. I think John Hannah is so silly and charming at the same time. I'm not a gwyneth hater so that helps and I don't care that her accent isn't great. I don't why, I just never get sick of it. Seems like people post on here because they dont like it.
I just watched it tonight, came on here to see the comments and shocked at how many people dislike it. I'm like you - I love it!
I actually forgot that Gwyneth wasn't English lol... I'm like... WAIT... she's not English?! Haha... That's how much her accent didn't bother me one bit.
And John Hannah.... *swoon* I would take his character ANY day. He's my type of guy :)

I am a Paltrow fan and I think she's really good in a challenging role where she has to bring to the fore differences in two versions of the same character.
John Hannah is a good foil for her, but IMO, the big mistake made by the director is giving Gerry way too much screen time. Consequently long - haired Helen's story becomes totally dominated by Gerry, who in turn begins to be seen as a somewhat lovable buffoon, rather than the manipulative, untrustworthy leech we know him to be 10 minutes into the film.
Contrast that with short-haired Helen, where James's story never comes close to dominating hers.
I like the movie but have always thought the doors were somewhat unbalanced.
I think the director or writer perhaps TRIED to make him seem too loveable but it NEVER worked out for me. He was just a dumb cluck who wouldn't listen to his pub mate.
Hi Enrique. Yes, I definitely agree. Nothing against John Lynch the actor, but the dominance of his character in that particular story, never worked for me, either in a dramatic nor comic sense.
