I was blown away!

I had a big chip on my shoulder about Gwyneth Paltrow for a while because of the Stateside 'Emma'. American claws on raw Austen material irked me - Clueless was different because it was more of a spoof of sorts. Anyway, I shook the chip off slightly and thought 'maybe I'll give Sliding Doors a go'. I was right to do so. I LOVE this film just from the first watch! And Gwyneth's British accent could give Renée Zellweger a run for money with how good it was. I had to double-check she was American. Although I must admit, Sliding Doors happens to be one of those films where I both hate and love the ending. I love that the earring bit still happens in the proper reality, but I really feel that the "blonde" timeline should've been the proper one, with Helen waiting a split second longer so she wouldn't have got fatally hit. But maybe that's just my gut wanting her and James to end up together. There was just too much chemistry, and that was one of the main things that shook me about it being the "fake" reality - all that explosive (somewhat resolved) tension went to waste.
