TO THOSE WHO SCREAM 'INCEST'...TAKE A LOOK.

For the last frickin' time. THERE IS NO INCEST IN THIS MOVIE. They have said multiple times throughout the movie that Kovu is NOT Scar's biological son. Kovu and Kiara are NOT cousins.

Don't believe me? Watch the movie again. Even Nuka is saying it! He said, and I quote, "...Scar wasn't even his father. He just took him in."

So there. :-P

Yea, really. This bored is so annoying with those incest posts. Theres no incest in this movie or the 1st one. Even if there was, theyre lions anyway. That happens in the animal kingdom all the time.

Truth be told, there's a high possibility of incest in the 1st Lion King.

Mufasa and Scar shared their pride in what can be called a coalition--sibling males will often use this system, usually ending with violence between them (Lion King was true to that, as well as rival males trying to kill another male's young. Furthermore, a rogue as Kovu would try to kill the alpha-male, in this case, Simba.)

Anyway, this means that Mufasa and Scar both would have mated with all the females in the pride, including Nala's mother. (And apparently, Scar had a harem on the side, so kudos to him.) This would make Simba and Nala either brother and sister or cousins.

I haven't seen it myself, but I've heard that the directors/writers admitted this after the film was released. And hell, they're not infallible. They set Lion King in the jungle... and lions don't live in jungles. Thank God they fixed that one! lol.

If you acquaint yourself with big cat/lion behavior and the studies of field researchers/documentary filmmakers, you'll find that, often, that is precisely how it works.

This documentary, done by the Jouberts (who I think are phenomenal), can give you an idea of coalition (although the affection shared between the three brothers is labelled a rare occurrence.) It's called Lions of Darkness:

The sites of WWF and AWF are also worth looking at for an introduction.

There are countless more sources--sites, books, articles--that you can find if you're interested.

I'm not saying I don't adore the Lion King movie--I consider it an artistic achievement--but they got it wrong. Which they needed to. If they had gotten it utterly right, it would have been a documentary for adults, and a horror film for children.

THey most certainly did NOT set it in the jungle. The song "In the Jungle, the mighty Jugnle, the lion sleeps tonight" is bogus; lions live in Africa mainly but in plains and such. And you didn't go seeing nice lush green trees wherever the lions went. They had some, which is realistic, but think of Pride Rock. A giant rock surrounded by PLAINS.

Anyway, there are, in fact, NO incest in the movie. Haha.

I always thought it was interesting that Scar wasn't originally going to be Mufasa's Brother in TLK.. and yet Kovu was originally Scar's son..

also funny that Scar's relation was put in for more Drama.. and Kovu's Parentage was changed because of ranty people who whine about incest.. sheesh..

reply

I think what he meant was that it was *originaly* set in the jungle- which is true =P

There is no incest in the first Lion King either, and here is a possibility as to why:

Lion prides are often subjected to the advances of rival males (termed as "rogue" or "roving"), attempting to get control over the pride. While it is obvious no such male ever succeeded, it IS possible that one such excursion into the Pridelands by one such male turned romantic, and resulted in the birth of Nala.

Mufasa is a good guy, and would likely allow the cub of such an encounter to stay within the pride.

Scar would've killed her then.

this may be true in real life... but this is a cartoon. i mean i'm pretty sure that a lion would not befriend a warthog and a meerkat in real life. and i'm also pretty sure that a mandrill monkey doesn't (for lack of a better word) baptize the new cub while all the other animals show up to watch. i think it's a cartoon that is based more solely on humans than lions so we should all just sit back and enjoy

oh yea finally u said it for those who says that they are cousins..

^Well said, well said.

It never really disturbed me. Because they're *lions* so I don't really care who mated who

reply

Even if they are cousins, so what? It ain't incest or against the law to have sex with cousins.

Which in my case, is probably a good thing.

reply

Thank you! Someone else has noticed that too. I've noticed that since I first saw it years ago, so I'm also getting tired of people saying or joking about the incest.
Yes, Kovu was adopted, period.

Well I never thought that there was incest as I also noticed that line. But I did notice that others DIDN'T notice that quote, but never got around to posting anything 'cause I thought everyone was joking or would just watch it again to see that there's no incest.
BUT I WAS WRONG! Anyway, thank you for posting this, people are seeing proof, lets move on...

Agreed, there was no incest 'this time' (there's still a question mark over Simba-Nala, depending on who Nala's father is, and her mother's connections to Sarabi). This question does raise the issues of Nuka's parentage though, since I can't imagine him coming out with that particular quote unless he himself was Scar's son.

Firstly, for many creatures incest is fine, but there are a few, Spotted Hyenas for instance, where females show a marked preference for unrelated males as opposed to related ones, so it's not only humans which frown on incest.

Secondly, yes, while humans are the most likely group to produce twins, we aren't the only ones, twin births are reckoned to happen to happen between 1% and 4% of the time with cattle, and somewhat more commonly with sheep. Also, while the Nine-Banded Armadillo produce generally 4 young, it should be noted that only a single egg is fertilised, making it such that practically every birth of these animals produces identical twins.
