"Kovu was the last born..."

Zira's little rant at the start of the movie makes no sense. When she tells Simba that he banished them to the outlands where they have little food and less water. Wasn't that the same situation they were in when Scar ruled the pride lands anyway? The herds moved on so the lions stopped hunting.

I guess she's just being stupidly biased.

The bigger problem is how Kovu was "hand-chosen" by Scar. Assuming Kiara was conceived in the jungle during "Can you feel the love tonight" and Kovu was born RIGHT before Simba came back, Kovu would be 3 months older than Kiara, so he should be bigger. I understand he could be smaller due to the lack of food and such, but this creates potential plot holes.

I mean we don't know when Zira joined the pride. If she came at the beginning, she could have witnessed lush times. That doesn't explain why she'd mate with another male as she was so devoted to Scar. It is stated somewhere that she adopted Kovu and Vitani, but even this is a problem. If Kovu were older when Scar chose him (maybe old enough to show strength / intelligence), he'd be even older and thus bigger than Kiara...

Since we never see the Outsiders in TLK1, I assumed they were hunting further afield and returned just in time to see Simba throwing Scar off the cliff. Hence the misunderstanding. Perhaps, Scar gave some of his share of food to Zira so she had more than she did in the outlands?
