Why is it called shooting fish?

Even my 12 year old knew before I could finish talking about it that it refers to "shooting fish in a barrel". They are con men...

so?

Its a saying... Its as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. A captive target! So for con men, their prey (aka those that have been con'd) are the fish.

He's right. You know, they say that in the film. After they're celebrating the success of the computer fraud.

Torture you? That's a good... that's a good idea... I like that one.

BUT NOBODY EVER ASKED THE QUESTION IN THE FIRST PLACE! The reason for the film's title is obvious even to a dribbling mentallist.

Thank you for posting that before me...anyone with an iota of intelligence gets that! I can't believe what a useless review that guy gave of the film and how completely unintelligent you would have to be to miss it.

And it’s not a film driven by immense meaning or pondering drivel it's just a quirky film which I surprisingly enjoyed watching.

It does rely on one crucial fact, though: that you've ever heard the phrase "as easy as shooting fish in a barrel". I hadn't ever heard it before, so I was intrigued as to the origin of the title... until I asked someone and got a similarly patronising "surely *everyone* knows that" reaction ;-)

reply

It does beg the question: "Which planet did you just arrive from?" LOL ( This is said with similarly patronising smirk. ;)

Ever considered the fact that maybe there are some whose first language is NOT english (and therefore they might not have heard the expression at all, it may not even exist in their own language) who watched the fim and wondered about the title?

"with friends like these, who is needing enemas?"

reply

Yeah, but considering how many book/film/play/whatever titles are based on wordplay, cultural references and figures of speech, its usually best to mention your foreignness when asking the question, if you want to avoid the otherwise inevitable "durrr". That's why films are generally retitled when they go abroad - apparently the Turkish (why not?) title is something about a partridge in a bag on a fishing line, I'm guessing that's their equivalent to "shooting fish in a barrel".

Not much of a movie, this one. Lots of better ones out there. If you see it in the shops, even in bargain bin, a-v-o-i-d.
