don't be fooled by the writing credit

this movie was heavily re-written by John's son Nick who said in the book "Accidental Genius" that he didn't understand what John had written so he went back and re-wrote it so he cold understand it...i know a lot of people are going to disagree on this point but to me that doesn't make it a john cassavetes film and makes all the press about this being the first new cassavetes script filmed in some years is nothing but empty hype...

who would disagree with you-it is so so obvious this was a bastardised JC script. the first part of the movie up until Sean's arrest is pure Cassavetes except it's obvious sequences have been shortened, if not cut out altogether and the remainder is also heavily rewritten

While I haven't seen the movie yet, from what I've read about father John's method was that he wrote the script, and it could be pretty detailed, but then he would also go through an intense rehearsal process with the actors, re-write as that was going on, then when shooting went on he would allow for some improvisation (though, actually, not as much as you might think). So it's really a film written and directed by Nick Cassavetes, based on a script by John Cassavetes, at least that's the impression I'm getting from reading this.

well that's how the writing credits should've read..instead they let people believe it was new material by John Cassavetes
