i only saw parts of this movie...what was the deal with the mask?

Isn't this a very stupid question to ask?
Why don't you just see the whole movie?
It's pretty meaningless for us to tell you about it.

This movie was lame. Sorry, I just ...blah, thought it seemed very low-budget and the acting blew. Just wanted to put in my cheap two cents here.

There were two Greek drama mask in the Christianson house- the comedy mask with the smiley face and the tragedy mask with the sad face. The masks were rather heavy and were used to bludgeon both Ellie's mother and later Ellie herself to death.
When Ellie killed her own mother, she used the tragedy mask and then hid it in her suitcase. Her younger sister Inger found it, realized that Ellie had killed their mother and placed it near Ellie's body after she (Inger) had killed Ellie with the comedy mask, which she in return hid in her backpack. The final scene in the movie is Lena (the father's new wife) discovering the comedy mask covered with blood (from killing Ellie) and realizing that Inger killed her sister, so she could take her place as daddy's favourite.

Hope this helps

again...such overcomplicated explanations...

the 14 yearold killed her mom with the tradedy mask because she was unhappy at her mom because she wanted her dad

her little sister killed her with the comedy mask because the death of her sister would make everyone happy.

by the way, by definition, comedies end happily and tradies end unhappily -> so you get the symbolism
