I felt sorry for him, inhis death scene his girlfriend doesn't believe he's not one of the the killers, then he's trapped on that cross at Mickey's mercy, as Mickey messes with Syd's mind as Derek swears to kill Mickey, then Derek is killed when he's revealed as innocent and does not knowing the fate of his beloved Sydney

It may have been in the script, Derek and Randy are not guys who'd hang out over a few beers and maybe Derek didn't like Randy because he had the hots for his girlfriend and maybe Randy disliked Derek as he was with Sidney.
