The ending of the movie

I was very touched by this movie.However, the ending is open to all our speculation. Guy(Dennis quaid) takes Vera's child as his own beside the lake after tearing his passport and throwing away his ammuntions.What does it imply? Will he stay there with the baby girl forever?And does the woman in the bus have a bigger role later in their lives? What do you guys think?
